Laminar Flow Cabinets
A laminar flow cabinet is designed to prevent contamination of the product. Air is drawn in through a HEPA filter and then blown in a very smooth, laminar flow towards the user. This design protects the product from the user - but the user is not protected from the product.
There are two options for laminar flow cabinets - vertical flow or horizontal flow.

Biological Safety Cabinets
Biological Safety Cabinets (BSCs) are the primary means of containment developed for working safely with infectious microorganisms. Depending on their classification, BSCs are designed to provide personnel, product, and environmental protections.
Class I BSCs provide personnel and environmental protection, but no product protection. Because product protection is provided by Class II BSCs, general usage of Class I BSCs has declined. However, Class I BSCs are still used to enclose equipment or used in conjunction with procedures that have the potential to generate aerosols.
Class II BSCs provide personnel, environmental, and product protection. The cabinet exhaust air is HEPA filtered, which is effective at trapping particulates and infectious agents, but not volatile chemicals or gases.

Cleaning Supplies
There is 3 main steps to proper cleaning and disinfecting an area.
1. CLEAN: This consist of using an agent that has a surfactant in it to lift the soil and debris off the surface. If you do not clean properlery it can lead to whats called a biofilm of dead organisms that begin to layer up ontop of each other.
2. DISINFECT: This consist of using an agent that has an anti-bacterial, fungicide, and virucide. When allowed to sit for the approriate amount of dwell time it can kill and wipe away living micro-organisms.
3. SPORICIDE: This consist of using an agent that has the ability to kill spores. These agents usually are based in high concentrations of bleach or hydrogen peroxide.
